The Statistics of Times of Minima

This page can be used to present statistics of observations of minima timings, based on published data collected in our database. Histograms showing the numbers of primary and secondary minima grouped by the parameters given by GCVS (period, magnitude, coordinates, etc.) are generated automatically. In particular, histograms can be made by creating lists of interesting objects fulfilling specific criteria, including number of observations, date of last observation, period, magnitude, etc.

Histogram form example

The first option is the creation of histograms for selected parameters. The user can choose the name and range of numeric parameters for the x-axis and type of output for the y-axis. Shown as an example is a histogram of the number of newly observed stars in given year. To create it, the parameter "start year" was checked, the x-axis range set from 1900 to 2000, and the bin of the histogram set equal to 5.

Alternatively, one can create a lists of objects fitting different conditions. For example, a list of stars observed before 1940, with brightness between 10 and 12 magnitude and number of observed minima between 5 and 30. Additional parameters (period, total number of minima number of primary and secondary minima) are listed in the output table.

Finally, pie charts can be created by using the "graph" option. For example, here is a comparison of the number of short (0 - 1 day) period stars with other stars.
