This deposit contains, in addition to this meta-data text-file, the Version 1.0 computer program: SQS

SQS analyzes series of signal sequences in the sense of J.VS comm. #191. It runs under the Windows Command Interpreter simulation of DOS.

After download from the J.VS Library it must be renamed to:


Start Windows Command Interpreter first. Then start SQS.

SQS is first referenced in Journal of Voynich Studies communication #203.

Replaced Version 1.0 with Version 1.1 which includes in the save-analysis-to-disk output a text-display presentation of the distribution of pillows and non-pillows in the series. This distribution is displayed on the screen via colors, whereas save-analysis outputs a plain ASCII file not involving colors. This distribution diagram is part of output block #[2.] and was missing in Version 1.0.

Replaced Version 1.1 with Version 1.2 which includes super-sequence analysis accessed via selection (V) in the show-analysis screen. SQS V1.2 is used in the work presented in J.VS comm. #205, where super-sequence calculations are explained in detail.

Replaced Version 1.2 with Version 1.3 which includes calculating VF(j) values for the super-sequence deviation factor function - see J.VS communication #206 for details. Also a minor bug in earlier SQS versions fixed: the reporting flag in the main menu screen for forward / reverse in earlier versions sometimes gave the wrong indication.

Replaced SQS Version 1.3 with Version 1.4 which:

1.) provides high-resolution sequence-spectrum values Z(x) or Z(x,y) calculated from the source series according to the definition of {I-18} in J.VS communication #210. This Z(x) data is given in the SQS analysis screen under the (S) command for displaying the sequence super-spectrum.

2.) has a new Utilities section, providing routines for preparing Z(x), Z(x,y), or similar data, for 2D and 3D topographic analysis and presentation. All utilities are explained with help information. Many of these utilities were used in the work of comm. #210, and details can be read there. The V1.4 utilities include:

(P) Partition a set of numbers into subsets
(R) Rectify partitioned subsets
(C) Centerize and rectify partitioned subsets
(J) Parallel or serial horizontal joining of subsets
(I) Interchange rows and columns of data-set
(X) x-axis reflect data in data-files
